1967 - 68 season : Although the team had a logo, it was not used on the
jerseys. They feature the name "Pittsburgh" spelled down across
(like the Rangers). The home jerseys were white (they are until now), while
the road ones were light blue. (Only the road one is pictured)
1968 - 69 season : The logos started to be used on the jerseys. The home
jersey had bands of light and dark blue on the sleeve and on the bottom, as
well as blue shoulders, and the road ones had the white and light blue in
reversed order.
1972 - 73 season : The jerseys now feature the newly re-designed logo on
the front. The color scheme was the same from the previous one.
1975 - 76 season : More changes as the jerseys lost the coloured shoulders
and the sleeves colors changed a little. There were other few changes the
following season.
1977 - 78 season : This time (and the next two seasons too), the jerseys
were changed again, this time to a style that remained until the early 90's.
This time the home ones are white with blue light blue sleeves. The road
ones are dark blue with light blue sleeves and some withe and light blue
trims on the bottom.
1979 - 80 season : On January 30, 1980, the Pens decided to pay a tribute
to the other teams in town of Champions (the Superbowl Champs Steelers and
the World Series Champs Pirates), which use gold and black, and started to
use these colors as well, maybe to attract some more fans to a struggling
franchise... Now, we have black instead of dark blue, and gold instead of
light blue. The Bruins tried to avoid the change, but it didn't pay off, as
the Pens won this battle and sticked with the new color scheme.
1980 - 81 season : The Penguins started to use an alternate gold jersey,
for the home games. This model would survive until the 84 - 85 season.
1991 - 92 : New logo and new uniforms for the back to back champions. The
white jerseys now have a thick gold band on the shoulder, and the road one
gained a whole new design, with the name "Pittsburgh" written
diagonally (like the first jersey) in gold, and with the team logo on the
shoulders.
1995 - 96 : The Pens, as well as 4 other teams, start to use an alternate
third jersey (which made its debut on January 27, 1996 against the Flyers),
that has the logo on a black jersey and a large band on its middle with some
blending of the Penguins colors.
1997 - 98 season : It's said that a new road jersey is about to be
released, with the team logo instead of the name "Pittsburgh". As
I didn't see it, I can't tell more about it. And as soon as I have its
picture, I'll show here.
